This is an appeal to raise funds to cope with the trail of disease, death and destruction that COVID19 is leaving around the world, in particular in Italy.
The question will be asked of each of us – where were you during the COVID pandemic and what did you do to lend a helping hand? Help us turn this race against time into a relay of compassion, empathy and giving.
Last week, Riccardo Polosa, CoEHAR founder wrote about what the pandemic will do once the worst has passed. It will be tantamount to the moment when the guns and cannons fell silent after the two world wars. Read here.
Assistance comes in many ways and as we make this appeal, we know the virus is ahead of what each of us can do individually and all of us together.
“I dare to think I am speaking for the entire medical community in Italy and world of which my team and I are a part. We don’t want to find ourselves in the same situation and must learn from history” – says Polosa who has consulted widely with the Italian medical community to launch this appeal together with the Italian Anti Smoking League.

Our aim is to secure:
- Better protection of front-line physicians (provision of protective equipment for personnel)
- Accelerated training for the use of non-invasive and invasive ventilators (the only life-saving medical intervention for COVID pneumonia)
- Psychological support including management of anxiety, depression for the most affected people and this will include a free 24/7 hotline.
